When The Arc of Carroll County held its 20th annual Willie Williams Charity Golf Tournament at Piney Branch Golf Club in Hampstead on Aug. 13, 144 golfers played a scramble format with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Willie Williams is the man who came up with the idea for the golf tournament 20 years ago and has been chairman every year since.
Different contests were available throughout the course, including closest to the pin, longest drive, hole-in-one and a putting contest. There was a raffle tent and awards were given for winning players and teams.
Golfers enjoyed refreshments on the course and a buffet lunch after the golf was finished.
“It’s still one of our largest fundraisers,” Norma Beam, assistant to the executive director, said.
Proceeds from the tournament benefit the programs of The Arc, such as Community Supported Living Arrangements and School Bus and Adult Transportation Services.
The Arc has been in Carroll County since 1955. According to its Web site, The Arc “supports the efforts of people with cognitive and related developmental disabilities to define and realize their goals in life.”
