ARC of Carroll County

Don Rowe, Executive Director of the ARC of Carroll County Inc., said the organization has been helping support people pursuing healthy, enviable lives since 1955.

The ARC’s Web site says ARC supports the efforts of people with cognitive and related developmental disabilities to define and realize their goals in life.

He said ARC has a staff of about 300 paid employees and about 40 to 50 active volunteers. ARC employees work either at the administrative offices on Krider’s Church Road, at residential homes throughout the county and also as job coaches at different businesses around Carroll.

Rowe said about 57 percent of its funding comes from the government through Medicaid money and about 31 percent of its funding comes from the Carroll County Board of Education. Other money comes from other donations and service fees.

The board of education funds ARC’s transporting of students with disabilities.

Of the $9.1 million in expenses in the 2007 fiscal year, about $8.4 million was spent on program services, according to its IRS 990 form, about a 92 percent program ratio.
