The holiday season puts us in the mood to count our blessings and appreciate the gifts we share with family and friends. It's also a chance to reach out to those who are less fortunate and share our blessings with them.
The following is a listing of some local nonprofits and advocacy groups that serve as conduits for charitable gifts.
To be sure, these aren't the only ones. For more opportunities to make the holidays brighter in your community, check with your local place of worship, school, hospital or shelter.

Services: Support for people with cognitive and developmental disabilities and their families. The Arc provides employment services, work services and community employment, job development, job site training, personal and social services, family services, respite services and community living services including homes in neighborhood communities to mentally disabled residents of Carroll County. The Arc also provides school transprtation and adult transportation taking adults to jobs.
Wish list: Monetary donations. laptop computer, color printer, microwave, snowblower, digital camera, basic tool kit, 50 plain shirts of various sizes, gift cards to Michael's. The Arc is selling Christmas cards, $5 for a pack of 10.
